To look deeper into the story of the Jägerstätter family and the production of the new historical drama from director Terrence Malick, Regal’s own Halleta Alemu sat down with Valerie Pachner to take a deep dive into her character.

Permeating through the set design and costumes of Jojo Rabbit are vibrant colors that were a reality during the time period, much to the surprise of many who have grown accustomed to the black-and-white and somber colors from historical footage and still images. On-location filming in Europe, combined with an attention to historical detail, combine with a creative freedom that helps to recreate WWII Germany.

Taika Waititi, a 44-year old New Zealand native, has had a rather long and successful career as an actor, filmmaker, and director in multiple movies which have yielded much acclaim and even some awards. Waititi rose to international fame in 2014 after the release of his vampire comedy mockumentary What We Do In The Shadows (2014), which he co-write, co-directed, and co-starred in playing the hilarious Viago Von Dorna Schmarten Scheden.

After directing the most successful Thor movie to date, Thor: Ragnarok (2017), Taika Waititi sets his sights on the greatest conflict the world has ever seen, World War II. Waititi brings the same comedic touch that helped revamp Marvel’s formerly austere God of Thunder to the gravitas of war, creating a uniquely original satire, Jojo Rabbit, starring himself, Roman Griffin Davis, Scarlett Johansson, Sam Rockwell, Rebel Wilson, and Stephen Merchant. Jojo Rabbit comes to Regal on October 18th.
