Red, Chuck, Bomb and the rest of our feathered friends are back and angrier than ever for The Angry Birds Movie 2! With this sequel to the 2016 videogame-based, animated hit flying into theatres, we can expect to see (or hear) some familiar voices returning to Bird Island including Jason Sudeikis in the lead role, Red, as well as Peter Dinklage reprising his role as Mighty Eagle.
In the second chapter of Angry Birds, we see an unexpected truce between the birds and pigs as they decide to set aside their differences to take on a common threat: the eagles of Eagle Island and their crazed leader, Zeta (voiced by Leslie Jones). When they learn of Zeta’s plans to launch a weapon and attack both Bird and Piggy Island, they band together to create a crack team to infiltrate the island, deactivate the weapon, and protect their way of life!
Angry Birds has already received a lot of praise for its hilarious writing and star-studded cast! So before you head into Regal to catch the second act, check out this stacked cast for The Angry Birds Movie 2!
Jason Sudeikis reprises his role as Red, the leader of the flock and icon from the original videogame. Decisive, loyal, and short-tempered, Red once again takes the charge to launch an attack on any enemy who threatens his home! Sudeikis is joined by a force of actors (many of which he has shared time on stage with for SNL) who make this a hilarious stream of non-stop comedy!
Being the multifaceted actor and impressionist he is, Bill Hader is back as Leonard (or King Mudbeard), the charismatic leader of the green pigs. Though this role may be a bit more light hearted for Hader, he will be starring in another sequel this year—IT Chapter Two as Richie Tozier.
Coming in as one of the newer characters for Angry Birds, Bloom takes on the role as Silver, Chuck’s fearless and scientifically minded sister. With an impressive education, Silver will play a key part in taking down Zeta and their weapon of bird destruction!
Another comedy veteran, Danny McBride, returns with his role as Bomb, a good friend of Red’s from the original movie. Though he is a gentle and kind hearted bird, Bomb’s power should never be underestimated. McBride fits the cast perfectly in his delivery and iconic voice!
Josh Gad plays the role of Chuck, Red’s closest and most loyal friend. Chuck is extremely hyperactive and at times a bit dim-witted, but his speed and dependability make him a powerful ally! Gad is also known for his work with Disney as the voice of Olaf from Frozen (2013), as well as his role in the live-action Beauty and the Beast (2017).
Yet another returning voice is Peter Dinklage as Mighty Eagle! In the videogame, Mighty Eagle is the most powerful character, and the same rules apply for the movie. His past daring actions have made him a sort of celebrity amongst the others, and he lives up to his legend as the mythical bird!
As the newest villain to the birds and pigs, Zeta is a resident of the frozen Eagle Island and the mad-bird behind the plot to attack and invade the surrounding islands. As a fellow SNL cast member, Jones brings a fibrant chemistry with Sudeikis and the rest of the cast.
Dove Cameron takes on the role as Ella, a pink and white bird and the newest face to the Angry Birds crew! Though the 23-year-old singer and actress is new to this movie, she has already gained valuable experience starring in Disney's Descendents, the role for which she is best known.
Sterling K Brown
This Emmy® and Golden Globe® -winning actor is joining the Angry Birds cast as Garry, the hipster inventor who gears up the team with next-level gadgets. Brown is best known for his roles in Black Panther (2018) and the highly anticipated Frozen II (2019).
Best known for his roles in Silicon Valley (2014-2019) and The Office (2005-2013), Zach Woods offers his goofy, awkward humor to Carl, a security guard on Eagle Island and one of Zeta’s loyal minions.
Though in the past year she has taken up more dramatic roles like in this year’s The Farewell and Crazy Rich Asians (2018), Awkwafina has some fun voicing Courtney. Though she spends more time texting and listening to music, Courtney is a highly skilled assistant to Leonard.
Most of the details about Nicki Minaj’s involvement in Angry Birds have been kept under wraps, but it is confirmed that she will be playing Pinky, a singing pink bird and one of the newest characters to join the birds! Though this seems like an unlikely role for Minaj, this isn’t her first animated movie: she took on the role as Steffie in Ice Age: Continental Drift (2012).
If you’re looking for some fast-paced, absurdly comical, and surprisingly clever cartoon chaos, then fly into Regal for the release of The Angry Birds Movie 2!
