Harrison Ford has enjoyed a long, successful career as one of Hollywood’s brightest stars, after all, how many actors can say they helped create not one but two iconic movie franchises? The man who brought to life Han Solo and Indiana Jones now stars as the famous literary character John Thornton in The Call of the Wild, an adaptation of Jack London’s beloved novel, coming to Regal this Friday, February 21st.
The Call of the Wild follows the adventures of Buck, a big-hearted dog whose blissful domestic life is turned upside down when he is suddenly uprooted from his California home and transported to the exotic wilds of the Alaskan Yukon during the Gold Rush of the 1890s. On his journey of a lifetime, Buck ultimately finds his true place in the world and becomes his own master.
Harrison Ford’s character, John Thornton, goes through a transformation of his own as a result of his relationship to Buck. This relationship serves as the core of the story, one that provides what Ford refers to as an “emotional exercise.”
“One of the things I am always looking for in a project is what I call an emotional exercise for the audience,” says Ford. “A chance to participate in a story where they recognize themselves and generate the power of emotional understanding in the audience.”
