It has been routine for Hollywood to pump out remake after remake of our most beloved movies; some with great success, and some receiving great criticism. With 2020 gearing up to deliver us plenty of new movies, we are also expecting to find a few familiar titles in the mix. One of the more anticipated movies of the year (for classic horror buffs, anyway) is the resurrection of the Universal classic, The Invisible Man, set to hit Regal theatres on February 28th.
With the trailer revealing a unique storyline to the classic movie, we are eager to see what kinds of twists and turns are in store for the story of The Invisible Man. To prepare ourselves for another year of reboots, we are taking a look at all of the upcoming remakes of some of our favorite classic titles!
THE INVISIBLE MAN
Release Date: February 28, 2020
One of the literary world’s most famous characters, The Invisible Man, has been adapted a number of times into TV series, a movie, comic books, radio dramas and even stage plays, but we are anticipating a whole new take on this movie with Blumhouse at its helm. Elisabeth Moss is set to lead the movie as Cecilia Kass, a woman who is being hunted down by her relentless, wealthy, sociopathic ex-boyfriend (played by Oliver Jackson-Cohen) who has obtained the technology to turn himself invisible. Cecilia’s biggest problem? Trying to convince her family and authorities that she is being followed by a person that can't be seen.

After a couple of movies starring Eddie Murphy, Robert Downey Jr. has taken up the mantle of the titular Doctor Dolittle in a fresh, new take on the iconic character. Directed by Stephen Gaghan (Gold), this movie will follow the story from the second book written by author Hugh Lofting, when the eccentric doctor and his fleet of furry friends embark on an epic adventure to a mythical island to find a cure to save a young Queen Victoria. Dolittle is set to co-star Antonio Banderas and Michael Sheen, with the voices of Tom Holland, Selena Gomez, John Cena, Marion Cotillard, Emma Thompson, and more!

Maybe one of the year’s most anticipated titles, Mulan is just the latest in Disney’s live-action remake trend. Directed by Niki Caro (Whale Rider) and starring Chinese actor Liu Yifei as the titular character, this movie will take on a more traditional look at the story of Mulan but will certainly maintain all of the Disney magic we have come to expect. Co-starring other Chinese legends such as Jet Li, Donnie Yen, and Gong Li, this movie is set to dominate the box office and bring nostalgia to us all.
DEATH ON THE NILE
Release Date: October 9, 2020
Starred in and directed by Kenneth Branagh, this sequel to 2017’s Murder on the Orient Express sees the return of his character, detective Hercule Poirot, in a remake of the 1978 classic, Death on the Nile. In the original 1937 novel by Agatha Christie, Death on the Nile follows Poirot as he investigates another mysterious murder, this time aboard a steamer headed down the Nile river. As of now, big names like Gal Gadot, Armie Hammer, Letitia Wright, Russell Brand, Annette Bening, and Rose Leslie have been added to the cast list of the upcoming whodunnit.
WEST SIDE STORY
Release Date: December 18, 2020
Based on Shakespeare's romantic tragedy Romeo and Juliet, West Side Story tells the tale of two star-crossed lovers who are involved in New York street gangs in the 1950’s. The last time we saw this movie on the big screen was in 1961 for the Broadway play movie adaptation featuring stunning performances by Natalie Wood and Richard Beymer. This time around, the legendary Steven Spielberg will be directing this classic story, with lead roles taken up by Ansel Elgort as Tony and Rachel Zegler as Maria. Filming has officially wrapped as of October 2019, so we can expect to see this new West Side Story hitting Regal at the end of the year!
There are plenty of reboots coming to us this year, but start the year off right with a whole new look at the classic terror of The Invisible Man, coming to Regal February 28th.
