Here's your guide to the cast and characters of the Sonic the Hedgehog movie. Sonic is the stuff of gamer legends; he's Sega's most famous playable character, a bright blue hedgehog who's been speeding through rings since his debut in 1991. Sega has been attempting to make a movie since all the way back in 1994, but progress hasn't been quite so speedy as Sonic himself.
Still, the gamers' daydream is finally a reality thanks to director Jeff Fowler (Gilmore Girls, Where the Wild Things Are), with a script written by Patrick Casey and Josh Miller. No expense has been spared to make this a hit. Sonic the Hedgehog was pushed back a final three months in order to fine-tune the VFX, after viewers gave a very negative response to Sonic's "realistic" appearance in the first trailer; although Sonic the Hedgehog is clearly aimed at younger viewers, Paramount hope old-school fans of the games will give it a chance as well, if only because they've listened to feedback.
Of course, the key to Sonic the Hedgehog's success will lie in its voice-cast. Fortunately, Fowler seems to have made some excellent choices in that regard.
Ben Schwartz as Sonic the Hedgehog
The script presents Sonic the Hedgehog as a young alien from another world who possesses a magic that is sought by those who would use it for evil. He's given magical rings allowing him to travel between worlds, and he's told to stay hidden and keep running; unwisely, Sonic settles down on Earth instead. The starring role is played by accomplished voice-actor Ben Schwartz, who's best known for playing Jean Ralphio in Parks & Rec, Leonardo in Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Dewey Duck in DuckTales.
Jim Carrey as Doctor Robotnik
Legendary comedy actor Jim Carrey is the villainous Dr. Robotnik in Sonic the Hedgehog's cast, a mad scientist and inventor who dreams of conquering the world - and believes Sonic's powers will be the key to his success. He's recruited by the US Government when Sonic unwittingly causes a power surge and a blackout across the Pacific North West.
James Marsden is Tom Wachowski

Fortunately Sonic has friends as well; he approaches sheriff Tom Wachowski, who helps him against Dr. Robotnik. Wachowski is played by James Marsden, best known for his role as Cyclops in the original X-Men movie trilogy, and more recently for his role in Westworld.
