With the announcement of No Time To Die, the latest installment of the iconic James Bond franchise set to premiere in the spring of 2020, the internet has been stirring with the recent news of the alleged takeover of the 007 title. One of the biggest rumors surrounding the new title is that actor Lashana Lynch (Captain Marvel, 2019) will be taking up the mantle as the newest 007 agent. Though the rumors are still rumors of the direction of the movie, we are still very excited to see the new path that the Bond franchise is headed down.

The Most Anticipated Movies of 2020

In an interview with Daniel Craig from TIFF 19 promoting Rian Johnson’s murder-mystery Knives Out (2019), when asked if the next actor to play 007 should be a woman, he responded with “yes, of course!” The current Bond name-holder even kidded co-star Jamie Lee Curtis that she should pick up the title. Although there is buzz that the title of 007 may eventually fall to Lynch, she will not be playing the role of James Bond, as it remains with Daniel Craig who starred in the previous 4 Bond movies. It is likely that in Bond’s retirement from MI6, M has handed over the title of 007 to Nomi, who is played by Lynch.

With Cary Joji Fukunaga directing the new Bond movie, he will be the first American director to take over the series. In addition to this change-up, BBC writer and actor Phoebe Waller-Bridge was brought in to modernize the script in an effort to help the franchise evolve to the times. The primary focus of this new initiative is to represent the female characters in the movie more positively while keeping Bond true to his nature.

No Time To Die: What Bond 25's Title Reveals About The Movie

With all of the changes coming with No Time To Die, we can expect to see the same Bond we know and love while finding a more modern and contemporary script. With Lashana Lynch on deck to co-pilot the 25th Bond movie, we can anticipate to see a new era where “Bond Girls” are no longer just a damsel in distress but are shown fighting side-by-side with James.
