Captain Marvel 2 has been confirmed to include both Iman Vellani's Ms. Marvel and Teyonah Parris' Monica Rambeau. A sequel to 2019's Captain Marvel, the movie will again star Brie Larson as its titular hero. As for its director, Nia DaCosta (Candyman) is taking over duties from the first movie's co-directors, Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck.
Brie Larson returns as Carol Danvers in Marvel Studios' Captain Marvel 2, directed by Nia DaCosta. Joining the cast are recently announced Ms. Marvel, Iman Vellani, and Monica Rambeau, played by WandaVision's Teyonah Parris.

Carol Danvers last appeared in Avengers: Endgame, spending much of her time out in the galaxy but returning to take part in the big climactic battle with Thanos. Captain Marvel 2 is expected to be set in the present day, post-Endgame, but beyond that little is known about its plot. Given the dramatic change in setting from the first movie, though, the cast surrounding Larson's Carol is sure to be very different. A reappearance from Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury is possible, if not likely, and Ben Mendelsohn's Talos could reappear, too. Especially if Captain Marvel 2 is in any way connected with the just-announced Secret Invasion series on Disney+. But beyond those possibilities, Marvel did confirm two new members of Captain Marvel 2's cast.
During Disney's annual investors call, Marvel Studios confirmed both the teenage hero Ms. Marvel and a now-adult Monica Rambeau will take part in Captain Marvel 2. Ms. Marvel aka Kamala Kahn will be played by Iman Vellani, who will first make her debut in the Disney+ series, Ms. Marvel. Monica Rambeau, a character first introduced in Captain Marvel as a child, is now played by Teyonah Parris, who will first debut as the adult Rambeau in WandaVision before appearing in Captain Marvel 2.
Though neither addition to the cast is necessarily surprising, it's exciting news all the same for Kamala Khan and Monica Rambeau to appear in Captain Marvel 2. In the case of Monica, she already has a history with Carol, and seeing the two reunited now that Monica is older is sure to be emotional. As for Kamala, assuming the MCU is sticking with the comics, she only knows Carol from afar, idolizing her, and being inspired by her so much that she takes the name Ms. Marvel in her honor. Monica also becomes Ms. Marvel for a period in the comics, and there's always a chance the MCU will do something similar, potentially having three Ms./Captain Marvel characters at the same time.
Beyond the marvelous team-up possibilities, Ms. Marvel and Monica Rambeau joining Captain Marvel 2 is another sign of how important Marvel's Disney+ shows will be to the MCU's future. With these characters first appearing in Disney+ shows before making the transition to the big screen, it's signaling these shows are only going to grow in importance as we learn more about Phase 4. Already, WandaVision is seen as an essential setup for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and now it seems the show is crucial to Captain Marvel 2. Ms. Marvel's connection is all the more obvious, but even her making the move from small to big screen implies how little the screen size matters to Marvel when mapping out their ever-growing universe.
