Bill & Ted's Daughters Won't Be As Clueless As Their Dads in Face The Music

Production Still - Bill & Ted's Daughters and friend in Bill & Ted Face the Music.

Actress Samara Weaving has revealed that the daughters will be smarter than their fathers in Bill & Ted Face The Music. Keanu Reeves' Ted Logan and Alex Winter's Bill Preston were last seen together in Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey, where the duo faced off against android clones of themselves sent back in time to kill them. Both Bogus Journey and its predecessor, Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, weren't box office juggernauts, only grossing a combined $78 million at the box office. However, since their respective releases, the films have developed a passionate following and achieved cult classic status, even influencing pop culture phenomenon, Stranger Things.

Bill & Ted Face The Music follows the beloved duo in the present day, now middle-aged dads struggling to write the song that they believe could save the world and ultimately fulfill their destiny. The sequel is written by Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon, the creative minds behind the first two films, and is directed by Dean Parisot, who helmed the cult favorite Galaxy Quest. The film will star Reeves, Winter, Weaving, Brigette Lundy-Paine, Kristen Schaal, Beck Bennett, and William Sadler, who will be returning as Death. The film will be the first new installment in the series in over thirty years, Bogus Journey being the last entry when it was released in 1991.

In a recent interview with Collider, actress Samara Weaving revealed that Bill & Ted's daughters will be smarter than their fathers in the highly anticipated comedy sequel. When asked how their daughters will compare to their fathers, Weaving stated, "I will say that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. They’re slightly more clued in than their fathers. They can join the dots a little quicker, but they are unaware of that. They still have that childlike view of the world."

Aside from its plot, not a significant amount information is known about the upcoming sequel. However, director Parisot has teased a 78-minute adventure, falling in line with the running times of its predecessors, more or less. In addition, Bill & Ted 3 will feature returning characters and some newcomers, including actor-musician Kid Cudi. With its looming August release date quickly approaching, fans have wondered when they'll get a first glimpse at the sequel. Co-writer Ed Solomon revealed that the first trailer for the film will debut this spring, a few months ahead of its release in theaters. Whether that release date stays intact remains to be seen as the coronavirus pandemic is causing many high-profile releases to shift their release windows.

Bill & Ted sequel had been talked about years and years, with no forward momentum to be seen. The fact that a new installment will be released in just a few short months continues to shock and awe in the best ways possible. The sequel will only continue the renaissance of Reeves' career and will give Winter a chance to finally remind audiences why he's such a terrific comedic performer. It's easy to be skeptical about a sequel that is being released decades after the last entry, but the pedigree involved should help assuage fans' fears. Audiences will finally get to see if the sequel was worth the wait when Bill & Ted Face The Music hits theaters this August.
