Shazam! Fury of the Gods is reportedly casting three actors to play a new evil trio in the upcoming DCEU movie. Fury of the Gods serves as a direct sequel to David F. Sandberg's 2019 Shazam! movie, which centered on the DC Comics character of the same name. Shazam! followed the troubled teenage orphan Billy Batson (Asher Angel) who, after discovering an ancient wizard's staff, acquires the ability to transform into the titular adult superhero (Zachary Levi). As Billy gets accustomed to his new strengths, he teams up with his superpowered foster family to take down the evil Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Mark Strong) and the Seven Deadly Sins. Shazam! was a rousing success at the box-office and among critics; therefore, Warner Bros. and New Line Cinemas quickly picked it up for a sequel.
Sandberg has been tight-lipped about the plot and premise of Shazam! Fury of the Gods, which he says has not even commenced preproduction yet. The movie will begin filming in the first quarter of 2021, and all original performers will return to reprise their roles. At the moment, no new cast additions have been confirmed for the movie but fans can expect a casting roundup soon.
According to The Illuminerdi, cast listings from Shazam! Fury of the Gods include "three mysterious sisters," who will most likely serve as the new enemies of the Shazam! family. The cast listing only alludes to the trio as the "Sisters" and does not detail much information about their roles. The ages of the sisters have, however, been confirmed to differ substantially. While the youngest sister will be around 17 years old, the two older ones will be in their forties and fifties/sixties respectively. Zendaya has been suggested as the prototype for the youngest sister, Halle Berry/Eva Green serves as the template for the middle sister and Helen Mirren is the archetype for the eldest sister.
During his appearance at DC FanDome in September, Sandberg confirmed that Shazam! Fury of the Gods would feature unexpected villains. "I can't really talk about villains...but I think a lot of people will be surprised," said Sandberg. "It's gonna be a little unexpected." And as it now appears, the unexpected villains in question are, in fact, the three evil sisters. Illuminerdi suggests that the three sisters could represent the Three Faces of Evil, a tri-headed antagonistic dragon from the comics. The dragon posed as a formidable opponent to Shazam! and the Marvel family before it was ultimately captured and imprisoned in the Rock of Eternity. At this time, the characterization is only speculative and unconfirmed.
The Three Faces of Evil, otherwise known as Terror, Sin, and Wickedness, was an embodiment of evil in its various forms. If Shazam! Fury of the Gods reinvents the classic villain, it will assuredly be a huge hit among fans as it will pit Billy Batson and his peers against an unprecedented threat that has been looming the world for several centuries. The new villains could also aid in exploring alternate dimensions within the Shazam! universe and help bridge the present narrative to the archaic times when the wizard Shazam acted as the champion of the six ancient gods.
