Systems Engineer III
The IT Department (Server Operations) is seeking an interested candidate to join their corporate office team. This position is based at the corporate office in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Summary: This position is responsible for supporting the hardware and software environment located in the corporate Data Center facility in Knoxville and the facility itself. The position provides technical leadership to other Systems Engineers who also support the computing environment in Knoxville as well as the main servers in the Theatres.
The Systems Engineer III is an exempt position and is primarily responsible for:
- Regular and consistent attendance.
- Perform all operational functions required on computers and servers to include (but not limited to) operating systems, system back-up and the offsite transfer of back-up copies, updated and accurate documentation, and oversight of the many delegated duties relating to the backup process. Specific duties include:
- Plan for major changes in the computing environment including operating system components, SAN/Storage environments, backup processes, and system policy configurations using Active Directory and VMware.
- Troubleshoot and repair of all hardware components including servers, storage devices and associated cabling.
- Monitor system performance and recommend corrective action to alleviate bottlenecks.
- Provide both proactive and reactive Server System Administration support for Windows Server 2003 running on both physical hardware and in a VMware environment.
- Provide support for server events to find root cause and define corrective action.
- Test and Implement new computing equipment and upgrades to hardware components as directed.
- Test and implement new software and upgrades to software products and tools as directed.
- Document current environment as well as all hardware and software changes and update as needed.
- Monitor and report on hardware / software capacity and utilization as directed.
- Establish, monitor, manage and report results against Service Level Agreements and Objectives (SLA / SLO). Report results as directed in a frequent and qualitative manner
- Develop and maintain practices and documentation required to effectively support the environment.
- Facilitating and continually updating a standard server imaging process on all platforms
- Provide qualitative and frequent updates to the Director, Server Operations on assigned tasks and responsibilities and escalate to the Director expeditiously when issues arise and consistently meet established project/task deadlines
- Maintain updated, active, germane, financially feasible, and industry-recognized technology certifications obtained through flexible and intuitive methods such as but not limited to self-paced, on-line, or project based training classes.
- Support the Disaster Recovery plan to ensure that applications can be recovered to meet the Recovery Time Objectives as defined and approved by Management:
- Monitors data backup processes; server state backup processes to ensure that recovery is possible
- Monitors a DR test environment to be used to create and validate application process for individual business applications
- Provides proactive role in the updating and maintaining Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity plans, and contributing to validation processes as directed
- Participates in drills to ensure recovery plans are viable and will meet RTO needs; updates as needed
- Identifies opportunities to reduce risk and mitigate potential threats; proposes solutions as necessary
- Collaborates with other IT groups to ensure ongoing operation and maintenance of Regal’s information infrastructure
- Testing and Implementing (new and replacement) and / or upgrade hardware components; manages implementation and distribution of upgraded applications to production environment
- Troubleshooting and fixing (through responsible vendors) software problems
- Provide 3rd level support to IT teams, Server Operations team members, and users who require help
- Collaborating with IT groups to maintain, problem solve and upgrade computing facilities
- Updates server infrastructure to remove vulnerabilities identified by IT Information Security processes; updates server standards and design as needed
- Develops and manages the Regal relationship with key infrastructure vendors to ensure compliance with defined Service Level Objectives and / or contract terms and schedules
- Monitors status of equipment with respect to warranty coverage and recommends action as needed
- Recommends changes to contracts with key vendors as needed
- Identifies strategic roadmap with key vendors to meet Regal’s tactical and strategic needs; creates annual action plans to execute on those strategies
- Identifies vendors who have the ability to provide strategic support to Regal over the longer term; develops relationships and strategies to exploit vendor capability
- The Systems Engineer III has no supervisory responsibility; however, this position must often take a leadership role in the identification and resolution of hardware and software problems.
Qualifications are as follows:
- Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) or equivalent experience, CompTIA Network+, and A+ certifications preferred
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in infrastructure support in a complex business and systems environment
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent IT systems experience
- 3 – 5 years of Active Directory related experience, preferably in a distributed environment encompassing DNS, DHCP, and WINS expertise.
- Proven track record effectively supporting distributed infrastructure environments.
- Must be organized and capable of providing leadership in a structured environment while requiring minimal day-to-day guidance.
- Experience is preferred in Theatre Information Technology
- Formal Project Management experience preferred.
- Experience with the following technologies is preferred:
- VMware ESX server 3.X or higher
- Microsoft SCOM or equivalents
- Microsoft SCCM, HPCA, WSUS or equivalents
- HP EVA SAN technology or equivalents
- Veritas NetBackup 6.X or higher
- Disaster Recovery experience
- Demonstrated ability to communicate difficult technical concepts clearly to a variety of individuals of varying technical expertise and understanding.
- Occasionally required to lift up to 40 pounds; may be required to lift packages up to 100 lbs.
- Employee may be required to be on call to respond to issues or problems which occur in normal course of business, including early hours (before 0600) and late hours (post 1800) in the day.
