Director of Taxation – Income Tax Compliance and Planning
The Accounting Department is seeking an interested candidate to join their corporate office team. This position is based at the corporate office in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Summary: Manage key Tax Department responsibilities including the preparation of all income tax provision calculations and the preparation and subsequent filing of all federal and state income and franchise tax returns.
The Director of Taxation is an exempt position and is primarily responsible for:
- Preparing quarterly and annual income tax provision calculations in accordance with FAS 109 for inclusion in the company’s financial statements.
- Compiling the information necessary to prepare all the company’s federal and state income and franchise tax returns. Compilation includes maintaining separate legal entity records, including balance sheets, income statements and state apportionment.
- Reviewing (or preparing as needed), income and franchise tax returns.
- Reviewing (or preparing as needed), corresponding quarterly estimated tax payments.
- Providing various tax related information to other departments upon request.
- Ensuring adherence to tax department processes and procedures to maintain established internal controls.
- Assisting VP in identifying and implementing tax planning/savings ideas or ways to improve current procedures to maintain compliance in all areas of taxation
- Providing back-up support for S&U tax, business license, and annual report compliance.
- Supervisory responsibilities: 1 Senior / 3 Staff; Review work prepared by senior staff.
Qualifications are as follows:
- B.S. in Accounting.
- Graduate degree with concentration in taxation preferred.
- Certified Public Accountant.
- 5 + years of progressive.
- Accounting background with concentration in federal and multi-state taxation of corporations and partnerships. Tax related knowledge of mergers and acquisitions.
- Excellent written and verbal skills are necessary to communicate with management as well as with various state and federal representatives.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts, such as discounts, apportionment interest, proportions, percentages, and effective tax rates.
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
- MS Excel, MS Word, Corptax or similar tax return preparation software.
- AS 400 or similar accounting software.
- Excellent reasoning skills necessary to obtain information needed and to appropriately communicate with different levels to obtain accurate information.
- Ability to analyze the big picture as well as the individual parts.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
