Synopsis

Double Feature: THE THIN MAN (1934) Adapting the Dashiell Hammett novel, W.S. Van Dyke helms the first and best in what was to become one of MGM’s most successful franchises of the 1930s. William Powell and Myrna Loy are transcendentally flighty as the carefree rich couple Nick and Nora Charles, who fight crime along with their terrier, Asta. Their partying lifestyle is interrupted when a friend (Maureen O’Sullivan) asks them to help find her father, an inventor who has been missing for three months. LIBELED LADY (1936) Remade a decade later as EASY TO WED, this screwball comedy gem features a veritable dream team of MGM stars at the top of their game. Heiress Myrna Loy sues the New York Evening Star when it paints her as a home wrecker, but editor Spencer Tracy thinks he can get the suit dropped by trapping the wealthy woman between one of his ex-reporters and his own fiancée.
